Lots has been happening at The Panel Shop during the past year that we thought might be of interest to you, our valued customers and associates. We intend this to be the first of a regular newsletter that will bring you a variety of information about us, our people, our services and products and other technical issues which you might find of interest. For those with whom we have yet to partner, we hope that this newsletter will arouse your interest about how we might work together in the future.

~ Staff updates ~

The Panel Shop has had a few recent changes in staff.  Art Gunn is working nearby at his local office and continues to be a valued consultant to our staff.  One of our valued Production Technicians, Greg Webber has  taken a new career path; choosing to pursue his passion for music... catch him on tour with Bucket Truck, a successful Canadian metal band.  Shelley Warman will be temporarily out on maternity leave as she is expecting her second child in late March.  Rob McNair has recently joined the team here at The Panel Shop.  Our expertise continues to develop as we are in our 10th year of operation... thanks to our diverse customer base of new and well established customers.

~ SCADA ~

We are nearing successful completion of a new Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition project in the community of Baker Brook, New Brunswick.  This project monitors Potable and Wastewater systems at 8 locations throughout the community via wireless communication links.  Central monitoring of well levels, individual pump status at each lift station, and various other data is available at town hall with computer based graphical display software for ease of use. Also, we are presently implementing a similar project in the community of St. Stephen, New Brunswick which shall be installed and functional in the near future. These projects are a logical extension of our custom pump control expertise and we have high expectations for future SCADA projects.  Contact us to see how we can put you in control of your municipal potable and wastewater system.

~ CONTEST ~
Name the Blobs !

We have had some very positive comments so far and are proud to introduce our new look to you at this time. Many of you may be wondering what the significance of the graphic part of our logo (the blobs) might be and from some of you we have had very interesting and varied opinions. Building on this early feedback, we thought it might be interesting to see how many varied opinions we might gather. For all of you who submit to us by fax or e-mail your best guess at what the graphic means to you, we will send you a small token of appreciation for the interest you have shown. For the best idea submitted as judged by our staff, we will send the winner a $100.00 gift certificate to Mark’s Work Warehouse. We will publish the compiled list of your ideas in a future issue of PANELFACTS along with the name of the winner.

~ ISO9000 ~

As of August 2000, The Panel Shop has been registered by The Quality Management Institute as an ISO9001 company. In our continuing goal and desire to bring you the highest quality products that we can produce, we are engaged in a quality program to help guide us and monitor our processes from quoting, designing, production and testing of our products. We monitor and audit ourselves on an ongoing basis and are audited annually by an external auditor in an effort to continuously improve our processes as we grow our business together.

~ Brief History ~

In the fall of 1995, two electrical engineers, Arthur Gunn and John McGraw each having operated their own consulting practice for a number of years and having worked in industry prior to that, decided to start a small manufacturing business. Today The Panel Shop employs a full time staff of 10 people including engineers, technicians and various support staff. To date we have built over 1000 panels ranging from simple custom junction boxes to large PLC based operator consoles. We have built a customer base in the mining, pulp, and paper, petroleum, food processing, industries and in various other sectors including Municipal, Provincial and Federal Governments. To date we have panels in service in 8 provinces and 7 US states and are currently working on our first off-shore project.
